About the Work

I volunteer at 826michigan, a non-profit group dedicated to equipping, inspiring, and supporting young students as they learn to write, both creatively and for school.  Among other things, 826 runs workshops, tutors kids in all subjects, hosts field trips, and sends interns to area schools as teachers' assistants.  My work mostly consists of helping out at the writing workshops. In the future, I hope to help out as a copy-editor, as well as being a shelf stocker for the group's storefront, the Robot Supply and Repair Shop.

About the Worker

My name is Jeannie, and I am currently a student in the Collaboration and Community Projects writing class at EMU, which focuses on the role of writers and artists in the larger community around them.  Each member of the class is expected to complete 20 hours of community service as part of the course requirements.  I chose 826 for its mission, sense of humor, and the potential for continued involvement.  My major is in Creative Writing and my minor is in Plant Biology.  If the government asks, I am not a robot.

Why Robots?

Because they are awesome.
